Dijon is the capital and largest city of the Côte-d'Or department and of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, to which Côte-d'Or belongs.
It had its heyday under Philip the Bold, Jan Without Fear, Philip the Good and Charlemagne when it was the capital of the French part of the Duchy of Burgundy.
