The giant ibis is a bird of the family Threskiornithidae (Ibises and spoonbills).
It is a seriously endangered species of bird in Cambodia, Laos and southern Vietnam.
The bird was collected on the banks of the Mekong in May 1876 and validly described in 1877 by Emile Oustalet.
