The currant or trout berry (Ribes rubrum) is a berry, originally from a part in western Europe: Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands, northern Italy and northern Spain.
It is a deciduous shrub, normally 1 to 1.5 meters high, sometimes 2 m, with a handlobbig leaf with five lobes.
The flowers are unremarkable yellow-green and the edible berries are often bright red, sometimes white or pink.
The berries (diameter about 8-12 mm) hang in bunches with 3 to 10 berries at the same time, the length of such a bunch is 4 to 8 cm. A planted bush can yield 3 to 4 kilos of berries, around the middle or end of the summer.
