St. Peter's basilica

St. Peter's Basilica (Italian: Basilica di San Pietro) is a Catholic church and basilica major on St. Peter's Square in the Vatican City.
The church was built between 1506 and 1626 in late Renaissance and Baroque architecture on the site of the former Circus of Nero in Rome, where legend has it that the apostle and first pope, Peter, was crucified and buried.
It is an important place of pilgrimage for Catholics and is considered the first of the seven pilgrimage churches of Rome.
