Old Town Ávila - Spain

The old city of Ávila was founded in the 11th century to protect the Spanish territories from the Moors.
It is also called the "City of Saints and Stones".
The city is the birthplace of Saint Teresa and the burial place of the Grand Inquisitor Torquemada.
Ávila has preserved its medieval austerity, still visible in the Gothic cathedral and fortifications.
The fortifications, with their 82 semicircular towers and nine gates, are the most complete in Spain.
Characteristic of the city are the churches that lie outside the city walls (extra muros).
