The indestructible plant
The Welwitschia mirabilis is an almost indestructible plant and is called African double-blanche death in African.
The plant reaches an average of 500 to 600 years old and the oldest specimens found even have the respectable age of 2000. The Welwitschia is found in Angola and Namibia and lives in areas with little or no rain.
The plant cannot do without water completely and it therefore survives by drinking from underground water sources and streams.
If you want to see this special plant species, you can do so at the Hortus Botanicus Amsterdam.
Keep an eye on the site; this plant is not always open to the public.
